FREEZING RAIN AND HEAVY RAINFALL WARNING
4/15/2018 1:51:53 PM

Freezing rain and rainfall warning in effect for.....St. Thomas - Aylmer - Eastern Elgin County Significant ice storm continues into this afternoon. Power outages likely. Portions of Southwestern Ontario continue to report a mix of ice pellets and freezing rain. This icy mix is expected to continue into the afternoon before changing over to straight rain as temperatures begin to rise above the freezing mark. The ice buildup won't likely be as severe as earlier expected - perhaps up to 10 mm. However, strong winds gusting to 80 km/h in combination with the ice accumulation will likely still result in many power outages due to fallen trees limbs and power lines. Dangerous winter driving conditions are expected on untreated roads, worsened by fallen tree limbs.
Significant rainfall today. Following some morning freezing rain, a round of significant rainfall is expected this afternoon into this evening. The rain may fall heavily at times with amounts likely in the 20 to 30 mm range. Some additional rainfall is likely overnight into Monday, albeit lighter. Total rainfall amounts for the weekend may be in the 30 to 40 mm range with localized amounts of 50 to 60 mm possible. Localized flooding in low-lying areas is possible. It is advised that you keep children and pets away from creeks and river banks.
