Interlibrary loans are coming back to the St. Thomas Public Library as of July 8th. The service that allows cardholders to borrow materials from other libraries was suspended in late April as a result of the Provincial Government cutting the Southern Ontario Library Service’s (SOLS) budget by 50%.
The library is making the service available with funds from their operating budget. The Province and the SOLS made Interlibrary loans available again on June 1st and the library is now opting into the service.
Library CEO Heather Robinson says that while the service is returning there will be some new restrictions.
Robinson says that the people made it known how much the service was missed which is a big reason why it was brought back.
They will be monitoring the service to make sure that it is streamlined and is as economic as possible but plan on doing everything they can to make sure its here to stay.
