Dalewood Conservation Area and Lake Whittaker Conservation Area will both be holding Learn to Fish events this weekend. Dalewood will be holding their event on Saturday (July 13) and Lake Whittaker’s will take place on Sunday (July 14). Both Conservation Area’s will be holding 2 sessions each day from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. The event is free to attend however a day use pass is needed for each vehicle that enters the parks which will cost $10.
The sessions that are being put on by Ontario Fish and Wildlife through the Government of Ontario will help beginners learn the basics of fishing with an hour of dry-land learning that will include how to set up a fishing rod, how to cast a rod, and how to identify Ontario fish species. After the on land learning is complete, people will get an opportunity to head down to the water for an hour of supervised fishing. All equipment needed for the day including a fishing rod, life jacket, bait, and even a promotional fishing license for the day will be provided.
Each session is capped at 40 participants and it will run on a first come first serve basis. It is recommended to arrive at least 15 minutes before the session starts to help guarantee a spot.
