A no stopping anytime zone has been approved for the area of Talbot Street and the Swiss Chalet Intersection. St. Thomas City Council voted in favour of the zone on the north and south sides of Talbot Street 40m west of the Swiss Chalet Driveway to 90m east of the Swiss Chalet Driveway.
The request to staff to look into the matter came as vehicles have consistently been parking near the intersection which interferes with safe operations.
The main issue causing the traffic back up is when the Pioneer Energy gas bar offers cheap gas which causes cars to line up on Talbot Street.
The area is already a no parking anytime zone which still allows vehicles to load and unload merchandise and passengers. Staff recommended the no stopping restriction as a progressive way to increase public safety.
The traffic and parking bylaw has been amended and the police will have the means to issue tickets when they feel necessary. New signage will also be installed in the area.
