A heat warning is in effect for St Thomas, Aylmer and Eastern Elgin County.
Environment Canada says that daytime temperatures are expected to be in the low to mid 30s with humidex values of 40 or higher on Friday and Saturday.
Tonight’s temperatures will be warm with expected lows in the mid 20s and humidex values remaining around 30.
With temperatures and humidex values as high as they are, you are being reminded of the many cooling zones that Elgin County has to offer.
In St. Thomas you can cool down at the Joe Thorton Community Centre, the St. Thomas Public Library and the St. Thomas Seniors Centre.
In Aylmer, you can go to the East Elgin Community Complex.
In Malahide, you can stop by the Malahide Community Place.
In West Elgin, you can cool down in the West Elgin Community Health Centre, West Lorne Community Complex and Rodney Recreation Centre.
In Bayham, you can cool down in the Bayham Municipal Office.
South Western Health encourages the public to follow these tips to stay cool:
* Stay hydrated
* Find shade
* Take breaks if you work outside
* Stay inside (especially during the hottest time of the day which is from 11 am until 3 pm)
* Dress in light and loose fitting clothing
* Don’t leave people or pets in cars
* Wear sunscreen of at least SPF 30
And remember to look out for family, friends and neighbours who don’t have air conditioning.
