The first ever myFM All Hands on Deck Food Drive on Thursday (August 15) resulted in the largest donation of its kind for area food banks and school lunch programs.
The food drive saw myFM staff, local sponsors and volunteers accepting donations at the Real Canadian Superstore in St. Thomas, Miller’s Valu-Mart in Aylmer and at the Port Stanley Foodland.
Trucks, vans and money jars were filled for the St. Thomas Elgin Food Bank, Destination Church’s Brown bag lunch program, the Corner Cupboard in Aylmer and the Port Stanley Community Food Bank.
General Manager of the St. Thomas Elgin Food Bank Karen McDade says she has never seen a donation of this size before.
The day also saw companies paying for entire carts filled with items and some children even spending their birthday money to purchase items.
The food drive took place in mid-August for back to school to help ensure local children have proper nutrition in September.
