The St. Thomas Police are warning the public to be aware after a distraction theft involving an elderly woman resulted in debit and credit cards being stolen. The 76 year old St. Thomas woman was parked in an accessible parking spot at Walmart when she began to make her way into the store.
The woman was then approached by a man who claimed that the she had dropped a $20 bill. The 76 year old woman was positive she did not drop the bill but the man insisted that she check to make sure by opening her wallet.
The woman then proceeded to open her wallet and the man was able to steal her credit and debit cards by her doing so. The police are still investigation this case as the thief was able to get away and the cards were used shortly after being stolen.
