The 22nd annual Straffordville Watermelon Fest is taking place on Saturday (August 24). The day begins with a Firefighters pancake breakfast at the fire hall from 7 a.m. – 10 a.m.
A parade through the town begins at 10 a.m., ending at the community park for opening ceremonies at 11 a.m.
There is lots going on throughout the day including free watermelon, a seed spitting contest, free midway rides, live musical, a magician and much more.
Chair of the Straffordville Community Committee Rose Gardner says the day is all about the community coming together.
Gardner says that each year the festival attracts more than 2,000 people. Everything at the festival is free aside from burgers and hot dogs that will be available for purchase.
