The St. Thomas – Elgin Food Bank will be receiving fresh chicken thanks to their partnership with the Chicken Farmers of Ontario (CFO). The CFO Cares Farmers to Food Banks program will see fresh chicken donated to the food bank on a needed basis.
The announcement on Monday was accompanied by food bank volunteers, staff, local dignitaries and local chicken farmers.
The province wide program has seen over 3 million individual meals given to people in need in the last 5 years.
Board Director with CFO Brian Lewis says that the goal of the program is to help provide protein to area food banks.
General Manager of the food bank Karen McDade says that the chicken will go a long way to helping their clients get their protein
McDade says that the first donation will come this week which is needed as they have ran out of meat.
