The Elgin County OPP are in the school zones in the county this week educating the public about the change in speed limits near the schools. Many school zones in the county are now 40 km/hr zones, with more of them headed that way in the future. This week officers are giving a grace period and focusing on reminding motorists of the change in speed limit, though tickets may still be given at the officer’s discretion.
Media Relations Constable Adam Crewdson says that everyone has to get into the back to school mindset.
Crewdson says that next week officers will be out in targeted areas when school buses are on the road and focusing on speeding and distracted driving.
Crewdson says an easy way to help ensure back to school safety on the roads is to leave yourself an extra 10-15 minutes in the morning.
