The Catfish Creek Conservation Authority has issued a watershed conditions statement as strong winds as a result of hurricane Dorian are expected in the area until late Wednesday. The conservation authority says we can expect winds to increase to southwest 25 knots early this evening, then veering to the west 20 knots near midnight. Winds will continue into Wednesday where they will veer to the northwest 20 knots, diminishing to the northwest 15 knots near noon Wednesday, then down to 10 knots Wednesday evening.
They are asking residents around Lake Erie to keep a close eye on local conditions. They are also encouraging people to stay away from parts of the Lake Erie Shoreline that are experiencing the strong waves and elevated water levels as waves of 0.5m are forecasted to increase to 1.0m by as early as this afternoon.
The conservation authority is asking municipal flood coordinators along the shoreline to monitor the road conditions. The statement will remain in effect until Wednesday (Sept 4) at noon.
