The St. Thomas Police are asking both pedestrians and motorists to be more aware on roads and sidewalks when school returns today (September 3). The police will have an increased presence in the school zones to help ensure that everyone is getting back to school safely.
They’re asking everyone to remember that children will be walking and using crosswalks again, crossing guards will be out and school buses will be making frequent stops.
Traffic specialist Constable Chad Nevill says that back to school safety is a two way relationship between both the pedestrians and motorists.
Nevill says that they will also have zero tolerance with regards to vehicles passing school buses when the stop arm is out and the stop lights are activated.
