A 46 year old Malahide man has been arrested after he was caught driving under the influence of alcohol and with an open beer can in the vehicle. On August 29th, an Aylmer police officer who was conducting traffic enforcement around John Street North and Talbot Street East stopped a 2009 Jeep Cherokee that was traveling southbound on John Street North for a Highway Traffic Act offence.
Upon speaking with the driver, the officer detected the odour of alcohol inside the vehicle and as a result administered a roadside screening test that resulted in a fail. The officer then conducted a search of the vehicle where they found 2 sandwich bags containing what was suspected as marijuana, along with a open can of beer.
The man was taken back to the police station where further tests determined that he was twice over the legal limit. The 46 year old male was charged with Blood alcohol concentration 80 plus, Drive vehicle or boat with cannabis readily available and having care and control of a motor vehicle with open container of liquor.
