First responders in St. Thomas gathered at the Central Fire Station on Wednesday morning to commemorate the 18th anniversary of September 11th. Local fire fighters, police officers and EMS workers were joined by local dignitaries and City Staff for the ceremony which featured a few brief speeches.
The terrorist attacks took the lives of nearly 3,000 people and injured more than 6,000. The lives lost included 343 fire fighters, 60 police officers and 8 EMS paramedics.
President of the St. Thomas Professional Fire Fighters Association Warren Scott says that the service is a way to remember the lives that were lost in 2001.
Scott says that the day still has an impact on people and he feels that it’s important to continue to share the history with the younger generations.
