A residence on Erie Street in St. Thomas caught fire after lightning struck their home during Wednesday night’s storm. The Fire Department responded to 125 Erie Street just after 6 p.m. Fire Prevention Officer Bill Todd told myFM news that the fire started after lightning struck the second level of the home.
Fire Fighters were able to contain the fire to outside of the home. Work was also done inside of the home to prevent the fire from spreading.
The homeowners and pets were home at the time of the fire but were able to get out safely. The fire department shut off power to the home as a preventative measure and advised the homeowners not to reenter until they had an electrician inspection.
The damage is estimated at $35,000.
