St. Thomas and District Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Bob Hammersley has announced he will be retiring after 33 years of service. Hammersley has submitted his notice and will be retiring on October 31st of this year.
Hammersley decided to retire when reflecting on his 33 year anniversary over the Labour Day long weekend and felt that he wanted to have more time to himself at this point in his life.
Born and raised in St. Thomas, Hammersley started in a senior role with the Chamber after a career in radio and has held the President and CEO title for 30 of the 33 years.
Hammersley says that he never thought he would be with the Chamber for 33 years when he first started.
Hammersley says that the business community has gone through many highs and lows over his tenure, which has taught him to work to find new ways of doing things. Hammerlsey says that while he does have plans to travel during retirement, he will still be involved in the community whenever possible.
In a statement Board Chair of the Chamber Sean Dyke says that the board will be surveying the membership in the coming months to create a plan to make sure that the Chamber continues to move forward.
