The goal of the Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM) is to bring forth what’s in the best interests of municipalities nationwide to the federal government.
They’ve recently released their platform, which is something they’re informing all political parties of.
5 table officers represent FCM and therefore Canadian municipalities on a federal level. myFM spoke with one of the table officers Joanne Vanderheyden who says she encourages voters to challenge those running for office using the FCM platform.
Vanderheyden admits there’s additional pressure felt when federal election season rolls around but they work diligently with their board of directors which is 75 members strong. Some items they’re lobbying for is to double the gas tax funds transfer again next year, a public transit fund, and moving ahead on housing affordability proposals.
Their platform in full can be found on FCM.ca.
