The bicycle from the “Share the Ride” campaign in support of the United Way Elgin Middlesex has found its forever home. The United Way presented 14 year old Parkside student Courtney with the bike on Friday afternoon (September 20) outside of Big Brothers Big Sisters St. Thomas – Elgin.
The United Way reached out to Big Brothers Big Sisters looking for a deserving person in need of a bike after the campaign wrapped up at the United Way’s recent 3M Harvest Lunch.
Associate Director of Development Heather Jackson says that the bike raised a lot of awareness for them.
Courtney says that she’s very excited to have a new bike because her old one didn’t really work anymore.
The campaign started as the bike being awarded as a door prize at the St. Thomas and District Chamber of Commerce’s July Business after 5 meeting. The winner asked for the bike to be auctioned off with the proceeds going to the United Way.
The bike changed hands 34 times, raising a total of $8,500 for the United Way.
