St. Thomas and Elgin County Students and Residents rallied in front of City Hall in St. Thomas on Friday afternoon in support of the Global Climate Strike. Attendees brought signs and took turns stepping up to the microphone and voicing why urgent climate action is important to them.
The movement was inspired by Swedish Environmental Youth Activist Greta Thunberg and her call to youth all over the world to support climate action.
myFM spoke with youth at the rally and asked why the youth voice is important in the movement.
The youth were then asked for one thing that they would like to see people do in their lives to help fight climate change.
After the formal speeches were done outside, the group all marched with their signs through City Hall. This is the second climate strike at City Hall in the last week. Similar strikes have been taking place all over the world this week.
