A severe thunderstorm watch is in effect for St. Thomas and Elgin County this afternoon. Environment Canada says that the system that is developing near Lake Huron and Georgian Bay is expected to move into the region this afternoon and into the early evening.
The thunderstorms are expected to have localized damaging wind gusts, torrential downpours, frequent lightning, hail and the risk of an isolated tornado.
The risk of a severe thunderstorm is expected to remain in effect into this evening.
