The Thames Valley District School Board says that a decision on school closures will be made by the end of the week. On Wednesday, the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) gave their legally required five day notice to begin a strike, which would start Monday (Oct 7).
That means picketing lines could be formed with support staff outside of Ontario schools instead of inside. The TVDSB says that unless progress is made they will make a decision on school closures by Friday (Oct 4) at 11 a.m.
myFM spoke with TVDSB Associate Director Jeff Pratt who says a significant portion of their staff are CUPE members.
Pratt says that not having the CUPE support staff in the school, it would have an impact on the schools in many ways.
Pratt added that the board is advising parents to make child-caring arrangements for next week in the event of a deal with the province not being made.
