The St. Thomas Police are looking for the public’s help in their investigation after an ATM was dragged out of the Foodland by a truck early Monday morning (October 21). Officers on patrol at 4:30 a.m. noticed the front doors of the store were pulled out from the wall and that the metal door frame was lying in the parking lot. The ATM just inside the front doors was also missing.
Police say that just 5 minutes earlier a stolen blue Chevy Silverado pick up truck drove up to the front doors and three suspects exited the vehicle. A hand tool was used to create a hole in the front door that the suspects climbed through. The police report that the suspects then used a chain that was already tied to the pickup truck and wrapped it around the ATM. The truck then drove away and pulled the ATM from the store and through the doors.
The ATM was then loaded into the bed of the truck and the truck fled the scene 2 minutes later.
The first suspect is described as a male that was wearing blue jeans, a dark hoodie that was pulled over his head. The suspect was also wearing a mask. The second male suspect was also wearing jeans, a dark jacket, a hoodie over his head and was also wearing a mask. The third suspect that was driving the pickup truck was wearing jeans and a jacket that police say had an emblem on the back.
The stolen truck that was used in the incident was located later Monday morning at a residence near Dunkirk Drive and Fifth Ave in St. Thomas just before 7 a.m. The truck was recovered burned out in Southwold Township.
