Students across the country held their own mock vote for the Federal Election and the results in many of the ridings do not match up with those actually elected. More than 1.1 million elementary and secondary school students from 8,000 schools across the county participated in the Student Vote Canada for 2019.
Votes were cast in all 338 ridings and in Elgin-Middlesex-London over 2500 students participated. Although Karen Vecchio of the Conservatives was re-elected in Elgin-Middlesex-London, if it were up to the students, Bob Hargreaves of the NDP would be the new MP. Hargreaves received 736 votes which accounted for 29.26%, where as Vecchio received 27.28% of the vote with 686 ballots cast.
Overall students across the country elected a Liberal minority government with the NDP making up the official opposition. The Liberal party took 22.3% of the popular vote and 109 seats, re-electing Justin Trudeau for a second term as prime minister.
