St. Thomas – Elgin Second Stage Housing (STESSH) celebrated their 25 year anniversary with a flag raising ceremony. The ceremony took place on Monday (Oct 21) at City Hall and helped celebrate and give recognition to all the good they have done for the community over the past 25 years.
STESSH provides transitional supports and housing to women, with or without children, who are leaving an abusive relationship. The non-profit charitable agency currently has a 12 unit apartment complex in the city that allows women a chance to start over after leaving a abusive home. STESSH also offers the women a variety of supports to help them make long term plans for independent living.
President of the Board Beverley Wright says they felt that a flag raising was the perfect way to celebrate the milestone.
Wright, who has been with the organization since the very beginning says they are thankful that the city and former board member Mayor Joe Preston were able to help them celebrate.
