A 64 year old St. Thomas man is facing an arson charge after the St. Thomas Police saw a fire inside of a gazebo at a hardware store parking lot around 11:30 p.m. Monday night. When officers approached the gazebo they say a man was sitting inside it beside a shopping cart that had the fire inside it.
The fire was put out by officers with a fire extinguisher. The man was arrested and charged with one count of arson. He was held for a bail hearing.
The police say that they have dealt with the man in almost 200 social disorder related calls since the beginning of the year. The police have tried to set him up with supports in the community which he has refused.
