The St. Thomas Downtown Development Board’s annual tree lighting ceremony is taking place on Friday night (November 15). The event features Santa arriving in front of City Hall on a fire truck at 5:30 p.m. interacting with the kids before lighting the big pine tree at 6 p.m.
The community event will also feature Christmas music, Tim Hortons hot chocolate and treats from Why Not Cookies.
DDB Chair Earl Taylor says that the event also encourages downtown Christmas shopping.
Taylor says that the event is always very well supported and serves as the unofficial kick off to the Christmas season in St. Thomas.
Five $50 downtown dollar prizes will be given out and nonperishable food donations will also be accepted.
