Central Elgin Mayor Sally Martyn says that she is a little optimistic that New Sarum and Springfield Public Schools will remain open after the Thames Valley District School Board’s special meeting on Tuesday night (November 19). Martyn was one of a number of parents and dignitaries that were able to voice their thoughts on the potential closures to the trustees.
Martyn’s message was that rural school’s are vital in smaller communities, provide a better education for students, that the school’s should remain open and that the proposed new Belmont school does not need to be included in the business case.
Martyn says that she feels like the trustees agreed with the majority of the speakers.
Martyn also says that Minister Yurek advised the trustees that if they made a new Belmont school a top priority he would ensure that the Province would approve the funding.
The Trustees will vote on the closures on Tuesday night.
