Pillar of the St. Thomas business community Edward Roman “Ed” Yurek has passed away. Yurek passed away peacefully on Wednesday in St. Thomas. Yurek became a pharmacist in 1952 and is the founder of Yurek Pharmacy. Yurek was married to his late wife Mary for 60 years when she passed in 2018.
Yurek is the father to 6 children Peter, Mike, Sue, Diane, Joe and Jeff and the grandfather to 15 grandchildren and great grandfather to two with a third on the way.
Yurek is being remembered as someone who was caring, compassionate, funny and lived life to the fullest. Yurek is also remembered as someone who had a strong sense of community. Yurek believed that a businesses is only as strong as its community and since being founded 56 years ago Yurek Pharmacy has supported the community.
Yurek was in his 92nd year.
Visitation services will be held at Sifton Funeral Home in St. Thomas on Sunday from 2 p.m. – 5 p.m. and on Monday from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. – 9 p.m.
A mass of Christian Burial will be taking place at Holy Angels’ Roman Catholic Church where Yurek was a member on Tuesday at 10 a.m.
