The CN Rail Workers strike has resulted in Dowler Karn in St. Thomas advising their crop drying customers that as of Monday they will not be receiving propane. This news coming from a press conference on Friday afternoon organized by Elgin Middlesex London MP Karen Vecchio.
Friday is day 4 of the strike which begin on Tuesday when 3,200 workers began picketing.
MP Vecchio says that she is putting pressure on the Federal Government to get back to work to help end the strike.
The strike is impacting Dowler Karn’s ability to get propane to their facilities as they receive 90% of their propane by rail. This has forced the company to decide that the crop drying customers will not be receiving propane to dry their crops beginning on Monday.
CFO at Dowler Karn and Chair of the Canadian Propane Association Dan Kelly says that the decision was difficult as it is busy time of year for the propane industry.
Kelly says that in two or three weeks if the strike is still on they will have to look at their propane supply and demand and see if any additional decisions need to be made.
Bargaining is continuing around the clock and the two sides haven’t made significant progress on the key issues of health and safety.
