Teachers and education workers represented by the Ontario Secondary School Teachers’ Federation will be holding a province-wide one-day walkout on Wednesday. The union has announced the move that will follow six days of informational pickets and a limited withdrawal of administrative services that began Tuesday.
OSSTF President Harvey Bischof says that the job action this week designed to have no impact on students, hasn’t had much of an impact on negotiations. Bischof adds that the strike will see all the province’s public high school teachers withdraw full services for the day before resuming classes on Thursday, December 5th.
If an agreement is reached before Wednesday, the walkout will be called off.
The union has apologized for the disruption the move will cause, but points out that they’re making the decision in the best long-term interest of students.
Labour disputes between the Ford Government and the OSSTF continue to be at an impasse, with the union protesting changes made by the province, including increased class sizes, which has led to a loss of courses for students and layoffs for teachers.
