The St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital Foundation is encouraging the community to start giving back this holiday season by taking part in “Giving Tuesday.” Giving Tuesday originated in the United States a number of years ago following Black Friday and Cyber Monday and encourages consumer behaviour that supports the community.
The STEGH Foundation will be holding a fundraiser supporting the United Way Elgin – Middlesex in the atrium of the hospital where they will be selling socks and coffee to raise funds.
Executive Director Paul Jenkins says that the day is a twist on consumerism for one day.
Jenkins says that on Tuesday they are also launching their “Shop Local Perks” in partnership with myFM. For a $20 donation to the foundation users will be given a free one year membership to an app where you will have access to discounts from a number of local businesses.
