Teachers and education workers in St. Thomas that are represented by the Ontario Secondary School Teachers’ Federation are spending their day out at the picket line. Dozens of teachers and education workers from Arthur Voaden Secondary School, Central Elgin Collegiate Institute, Program Services, Continuing Education Services, and Occasional Teachers are striking outside of MPP Jeff Yurek’s office, while teachers from Parkside Collegiate Institute are spending the day picketing outside of their school.
These pickets that are taking place all over Ontario come after the OSSTF announced that they would be holding a teacher walkout that would cause all high schools represented by the union to be closed for the day.
Branch President at Arthur Voaden Christine White says they are spending the day outside of the classroom not to hurt their students but to fight for them.
White says that the best thing to come out of this walkout would be for Education Minister Stephen Lecce and his team to come to the table. All high school classes in Elgin County will resume as normal on Thursday, December 5th.
