The Ontario English Catholic Teachers’ Association (OECTA) members will be in a legal strike position as of December 21st. This coming as a result of OECTA’s “no-board” report where OECTA President Liz Stuart says that they hope that the report serves as a wake up call to Ontario Premier Doug Ford and Education Minister Stephen Lecce and motivates their team to abandon their cuts to the education system.
OECTA represents English catholic school teachers from kindergarten to grade 12. While no decisions on strike action have been made as of yet, the membership has voted 97.1% in favour of taking strike action if necessary. The Catholic teachers have filed a complaint with the Ontario Labour Relations Board because of the government’s behaviour in the bargaining process.
OECTA, the Province and the Catholic school board trustees have 2 days of bargaining scheduled for this week and 2 next week.
