A leg from a deer carcass found sticking out of a garbage bag has Central Elgin staff reminding residents of the proper way to dispose of dead wildlife. The incident occurred on Friday when one of their solid waste operators noticed the deer leg sticking out of a garbage bag.
The bag was tagged and was not picked up or collected by the operator.
Director of Infrastructure and Community Services Jeff Brooks says that this is concerning to staff as it poses a health and safety risk.
Brooks says that removing of dead animals from private property is not the responsibility of staff, but the property owners do have a couple options for removal.
Brooks says that this was the first time that an incident like this has happened in his experience. The Municipality will dispose and remove dead wildlife from municipal property or roadways.
