A 57 year old woman is facing multiple charges including Escape Lawful Custody after fleeing the scene during an attempted arrest. The incident began on Sunday afternoon around 1:30 p.m. at the St. Thomas Walmart when Loss Prevention Officers observed the woman shoplifting as she was walking through the store. Loss Prevention approached the woman when she attempted to leave the store without paying for the stolen items.
It is reported that the woman then fled when Loss Prevention Officers attempted to arrest her while police were called. St. Thomas Police were able to locate the accused a short distance away from the scene and took the 57 year old into custody without incident. Officers were able to recover all of the stolen property from the accused, before transporting her to the police station for processing.
During processing it was discovered that the woman was also wanted on 8 warrants by London Police. The woman was transferred into custody of the London Police with 2 additional charges including one count Theft Under $5000 and one count Escape Lawful Custody.
