A local family is once again collecting presents for seniors this holiday season with their 4th annual Smiles for Seniors Gift Drive. Bill Marlatt and his wife Sherry began collecting gifts for seniors in retirement homes throughout Elgin County 4 years ago, as a way to bring some joy to the residents during Christmas time.
Each year Bill and Sherry aim at adding another retirement home to the list of recipients on Christmas morning. Bill says that so far this year, donations are down, however they are still hopeful to add a 7th home in addition to their 6 from last year.
Bill says that the reason he and his wife organize this drive every year is to make a little difference in someone’s life around the holidays.
Bill says that they will be collecting donations until December 22nd at 8 participating businesses in Elgin Country. Donations can include items such as socks with grips, slippers, large print books, games, and puzzles, as well as many toiletry items such as roll on deodorant and lotion. Those wishing to make a donation to help put a smile on a senior’s face this holiday season can do so by dropping the gifts off at one of the following locations…
