Students at Monsignor Morrison Catholic School spent the afternoon on Friday (Dec 13) getting into the holiday spirit by making Christmas cards for seniors in Elgin County. The schools Faith in Action Team’s or F.I.A.T families as they refer to them, supported the local Smiles for Seniors initiative with each student making a personalized card to wish them well over the holidays.
French Teacher and F.I.A.T leader Michelle O’Gorman says they felt that this was a great way to get all of the students in the school involved in the initiative.
O’Gorman says that they explained to the students that many of the seniors living in retirement homes don’t receive presents or well wishes over they holidays and this is a way to let them know that people are indeed thinking about them.
O’Gorman says that the students were then rewarded for their hard work, as the school hosted their first ever turkey dinner that was put on by staff and volunteers. O’Gorman adds that they hope to add the turkey dinner onto the yearly tradition of making the special Christmas cards.
