St. Thomas City Council is moving forward with their plans for a new Child Care Facility on St. Catharine Street. Council voted in favour of a report on Monday night to tender the estimated $3.8 million project being proposed for the St. Catharine Street parking lot.
The proposed 88 child care space facility site plan before council depicts parking on the north end of the building, with the main entrance on the west side of the building facing St. Catharine Street. Some councillors were concerned and felt that this could create a crowded parking lot during drop off and pick up times.
City Manager Wendell Graves says that staff have been mindful of that in the planning process.
The project is planned to begin construction early in 2020 and be completed by December. The December construction deadline is important as $2.6 million in Provincial funding is contingent on a December completion date.
