International Street Artist Kelsey Montague famous for her “What Lifts You” angel wing murals is in St. Thomas working on her latest piece that will soon be on display in the City. Montague is painting the large 10 foot by 16 foot angel wings on panels with her sister Courtney that will then be installed in the City sometime in the New Year.
The mural pays tribute to the St. Thomas and area community with things like Jumbo, railroad tracks, an artist pallet and a tractor depicted in the wings.
Montague says that she wants the public to know that the mural is a gift from her.
Montague’s interactive murals which people pose in front of are located all over the world in places like Nashville, Galway Ireland, Sydney Australia and many more. This mural will be Montague’s second in Canada.
Railway City Tourism has commissioned Montague to paint the mural through the Downtown Development Board, the Rural Economic Development Fund and private funding.
Railway City Tourism Support Sarah Noble says that having a mural by Montague in St. Thomas can help increase tourism.
Noble says that this mural is part of a larger mural strategy for the City. They hope that the mural will help tell the story about what makes St. Thomas special.
The mural’s final location is still being finalized but an unveiling in the New Year is what the group is planning for. No pictures of the mural were permitted during our interview although we can tell you that it’s something that you are definitely going to have to checkout for yourself.
