A 34 year old St. Thomas woman is facing multiple charges including impaired driving following an incident that occurred Tuesday night. The incident began around 8 p.m. when St. Thomas Police were called to the intersection of First Ave and Elm Street after the accused rear ended a vehicle that was stopped for a red light and then fled the scene. Officers located the vehicle on Chestnut Street and had to block the driver in to pull her over.
Once pulled over police discovered that the vehicle had an adult male passenger in the passenger seat and a child in the back. Officers observed signs of impairment in the driver and she was taken into custody where she then failed tests issued by a Drug Recognition Expert Officer.
As a result the 34 year old woman has been charged with one count Operation While Impaired by Drug, Fail to Stop for Police, Fail to Provide Required Information at a Collision and Operation of a Motor Vehicle without Insurance. The woman was later released on a Promise to Appear in court.
The 31 year old male passenger is also facing a charged under the Smoke Free Ontario Act for smoking in a vehicle with a child under 16 present.
