Monsignor Morrison Catholic School has donated over 2000 non-perishable food items to the St. Thomas Elgin Food Bank. The school of around 300 students had an initial goal of 1 food item per student that was quickly reached with 2016 total items collected. The food drive was run by the school’s Student Council as a way to help give back to the local community at Christmas time.
Student Council and grade 2/3 teacher Kelly Campbell says that staff are so proud of the dedication that the students showed in collecting items for the food bank.
Campbell says that as a catholic school they try to instill in the students the importance of giving back and they decided that they wanted to help insure that everyone in the community has a warm meal on Christmas. Campbell adds that St. John Ambulance in St. Thomas helped them out by picking up their donation and dropping it off to the food bank.
