With Christmas just a few days away and the season’s festivities in full swing, MADD Canada is reminding Canadians to put safe roads and sober driving at the top of their holiday to-do lists. Every year, hundreds of people are killed and thousands more are injured in car accidents involving alcohol and or drug impairment. With many people planning on visiting loved ones and celebrating the holiday season this week, it is important to have a safe ride home if you are consuming alcohol or partaking in the use of drugs.
Doing something as simple as calling an Uber or a cab, arranging a designated driver, taking public transit or staying the night could mean the difference between life and death. MADD Canada reminds us that these decisions will not only help to save your own life, but also the lives of others.
You are also reminded to never get into the car ride with a driver who is impaired and to call 911 to report suspected impaired drivers, even if that means phoning the police on a loved one or friend.
