The Salvation Army in St. Thomas is collecting donations to help those impacted by the wildfires that are spreading throughout Australia. On behalf of Salvation Army Canada, the St. Thomas branch is collecting monetary donations that will be sent to the Salvation Army Australia to help with their relief efforts.
The wildfires have already caused 24 fatalities, with close to 2 thousand homes destroyed as the bush fires continue to torch millions of hectares of land. More than 135 fires are still burning across New South Wales, including almost 70 that are not contained.
As the crisis enters its fourth month, the Salvation Army in St. Thomas will be supporting Salvation Army Australia who are working throughout the affect areas by feeding firefighters battling the fires, working with local authorities to assist tourists as they evacuate, and assisting with food preparation and serving meals at evacuation centres, among other.
Those wishing to make a donation can do so by dropping into their church office at 380 Elm Street or online.
