Around 35 firefighters from Port Stanley and Union Stations responded to a fire this morning on Willow Street in Port Stanley. Central Elgin Fire received the call around 6 a.m. this morning about a detached garage that was on fire at 205 Willow Street. When crews arrived on scene the 2 story garage was fully involved and had spread to a portion of the home.
myFM spoke with Central Elgin Fire Chief Chris McDonough who says crews were able to quickly get the fire under control, however the fire destroyed the newly renovated garage. The Chief does report that they were able to save the house.
No cause of fire has been determined but McDonough says they suspect that it was as a result of exposure to an electric heater that was in the garage. McDonough pegs the damage at around $450,000 as the garage contained a motorcycle, ATV and other luxury items.
No Injuries were reported as a result of the fire.
