The Salvation Army in St. Thomas is thanking the community for helping them reach and surpass their 2019 Christmas Kettle Campaign goal. Volunteers spent the 6 weeks before Christmas out at local businesses collecting donations with the hope of reaching their goal of $150,000. After not reaching their 2018 goal, the Salvation Army was excited to learn that they surpassed their goal this year, collecting $167,378.79.
Community Ministries Director Nyree Bond says this is the most money raised by the campaign in at least the past 5 years.
Bond says that they are very thankful to the community for their generous donations during the campaign and are equally as thankful to the over 300 volunteers that helped out during the 6 weeks. All the money raised from the campaign will go to support all of the work they do throughout the year for families in Elgin County as this is their only fundraiser of the year.
