Elementary teachers within the Thames Valley District School Board will be joining teachers all across the province by holding a one day strike next week. The Elementary Teachers Federation of Ontario has given the required five days notice for the walk out that will be taking place on Wednesday, January 22nd. The strike taking place on Wednesday will affect schools in Elgin County that are apart of the TVDSB. The TVDSB has not yet confirmed what its plans are for dealing with this job action, though schools have been closed for the day during every other strike so far.
ETFO President Sam Hammond says that “In the 28 days since our last bargaining session on December 19, 2019, the Ford government and Minister Lecce have had ample time to return to contract talks with ETFO and they have chosen not to do so.” Hammond adds that “We have no choice but to commence rotating strikes starting this Monday as our only means of forcing the government to get serious about negotiations and the future of public education.”
The ETFO will also be holding similar strikes throughout other school boards on Monday and Tuesday of next week.
