Special Olympics Athletes of the Year Kristen Edmondson and Chris Freeman have been preparing their speeches that they will be presenting at the St. Thomas Sports Spectacular this Thursday. Kristen and Chris who have both been competing with the Special Olympics for around 9 years were chosen as the 2019 Athletes of the Year for St. Thomas, due to their accomplishments in their respective sports.
When myFM spoke with them, both Chris and Kristen agreed that receiving the award was an honour but it came with some uncertainty.
Chris and Kristen will have a chance to meet the athletes that make up the head table at the Sports Spectacular before presenting their speeches to all in attendance.
We asked them what they are most looking forward to the day of the event.
The event will feature a buffet dinner, autograph and photo opportunities, keynote addresses from the head table as well as silent and live auctions. Portions of the money raised will be going to support local Special Olympic athletes and Community Living Elgin, with last year’s dinner raising $30,000.
