The St. Thomas Foodland is doing something a little different for those who are on the autism spectrum and are otherwise sensitive to high environmental stimulation.
Once a week the store will dim the lights, cut the music and keep noise to a minimum.
Franchisee, David Stewardson explains the idea behind the trend is to introduce an environment for those who are on the autism spectrum and those who are anxious in highly stimulating environments.
Stewardson encourages other business owners to embrace new ideas as well.
Sensory-free shopping will be taking place at Foodland every Wednesday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
