The OPP are reporting that the AMBER Alert Program was proven successful in 2019. The say that AMBER Alert’s have helped to safely locate 11 children in Ontario in 2019 alone. Of the 8 AMBER alerts in Ontario, 11 of the 12 children were located safely and 6 out of the 8 suspects were arrested.
The AMBER Alert program is currently being used in Canada, the United States of America and many other countries around the world.
The OPP say that once a child is abducted there is no way to determine the exact location the abductor is headed. It is important to alert the entire province, which is consistent with all other provinces in Canada. In Ontario, the OPP only issue AMBER Alerts, with all other emergency alerts issued by the Provincial Emergency Operations Centre.
January 13th marked International AMBER Alert Awareness Day, honoring the memory of 9-year-old Amber Hagerman who was abducted and murdered in Arlington, Texas on January 13, 1996.
