Today myFM is celebrating local coaches and the impact they’ve had on athletes in Elgin County with our Hooray for Coaches Day feature, presented by Briwood Farm Market.
We spoke with Dennis Dlouhy who is the President of St. Thomas Express Volleyball Club and also coaches 14U girls and 12U boys volleyball. Dlouhy first began coaching volleyball almost 30 years ago when he was in high school.
Dlouhy says as a professional educator he loves working with youth and seeing them get excited about a sport that isn’t as widely played as other sports in Elgin County.
Dlouhy says that the biggest challenge he currently faces as a volleyball coach in St. Thomas is finding other qualified coaches to accommodate the needs of the players.
Dlouhy’s advice for anyone interested in becoming a coach is to do it because it’s so rewarding. Dlouhy’s say his biggest accomplishment to date is knowing that St. Thomas has a volleyball club full of fantastic volunteers, supportive parents, and dedicated players.
